About the Design

The Villa Savoye is probably amongst the top 3 most recognized single-family houses in the world. Designed by Le Corbusier and built in 1931 in Poissy, on the outskirts of Paris, the houses set the record as for what modern houses should be.

Le Corbusier’s admired steamships. Their engineering and modular design fascinated him, and he brought much of that fascination into his architecture, which he tried to rationalize and standardize as much as possible.

The Villa Savoye is a textbook example of “The Five Points” of architecture that Le Corbusier established, which where 1. The use of piloits. 2. A Flat roof terrace. 3. Open plan. 4. Ribbon windows and 5. A façade that carried no structural weight.
