I ❤️ Mies. Pillow

About the Design

One of Mies’s most famous quotes is “God is in the details”, and so it makes sense that one the images that better represents his work is not a photo of a building, but a detail drawing of a pillar.

Mies’s started developing his famous cruciform pillar for the Barcelona Pavilion in 1929, and soon thereafter perfected it of the Tugendhat House.

The pillar, although as simple cross for many, is actually a clever combination of four L profiles with one or two metal shimming plates. The resulting shape is so powerful that even today, the first thing any article will think when seeing a cruciform pillar is… “Mies”.
